Yiwen Wei, Ph.D. is currently an Assistant Professor of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. She earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Art Education from Florida State University. She received her Bachelor's degree in Arts and Arts Education from National Taipei University of Education in Taiwan. Supported by the 2017–2018 National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) Research Grant, her dissertation explored the issue of social class in art education through a comparative case study.
Dr. Wei was an elementary school teacher in Taiwan for 7 years before studying abroad. In addition to her teaching experiences in Taiwan, she worked with teachers and learners from a variety of sociocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds through research, community service, and museum-school collaborative art projects in Florida, Maryland, and Virginia. As a former Director of International Affairs of the World Chinese Arts Education Association (WCAEA), Dr. Wei worked with art educators worldwide to facilitate the exchange of art education theories and practices. She is committed to cultural exchanges and strengthen the connections between art educators internationally.
Dr. Wei strongly advocates public education and deeply cares about the well-being of her students, including AAPI and LGBTQ+ students. At VCU, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including elementary art education materials and practicum, curriculum theories, art assessment, research methods, and data visualization. Her current projects investigate the needs and strengths of first-generation LGBTQ+ college students at VCU. Her research interests include: social class in art education, art assessment, data visualization, comparative case studies, mixed method research, cultural diversity and global art education, postcolonial and decolonial pedagogy, LGBTQIA+ issues, global knowledge trade.
魏意雯,藝術教育博士,現任美國維吉尼亞聯邦大學藝術教育系助理教授。她在國立臺北教育大學取得藝術與藝術教育學士學位和教育心理與諮商輔系,並具有合格國小教師執照和實務經驗,曾在大台北地區的小學和美術才藝班擔任班導師、藝術教師和行政人員。獲得公費留學資格後,至美國佛羅里達州立大學攻讀藝術教育碩博士,並取得美國美術館教育證照。
作為 Dr. Jeffrey Broome 的主要指導學生,她融合中西藝術教育理念,致力於推廣學校、美術館和社區融合的藝術教育,並促進國際間的學術交流。在美國留學期間,她曾和Dr. Broome共同擔任佛羅里達大學(University of Florida)線上碩士課程的客座講師,並積極參與區域性、國家性和國際性的學術交流研討會,包括:維吉尼亞州藝術教育研討會(Virginia Art Education Association Conference)、美國藝術教育研究論壇(Art Education Research Institute Symposium)、全美藝術教育大會(National Art Education Association Convention)和在丹麥舉行的國際融入式博物館教育研討會(International Conference on the Inclusive Museum)。
她的博士論文研究案獲得美國藝術教育基金會(National Art Education Foundation)遴選補助,主要探討社會階級和藝術教育的關係。她期許提供每個孩子不論出生背景都能享有藝術欣賞和創作的機會,並透過藝術教育,學習自身與周遭環境和文化的關係。她的文章曾刊登在Studies in Art Education, Art Education Journal, The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum, 和湖南《創作與評論》等期刊。曾任世界華人美術教育協會海外國際事務部主任 (Director of International Affairs, the World Chinese Arts Education Association),協助規劃和推廣世界華人藝術教育協會活動,期許透過網絡平台的多元經營,強化各地華人藝術教育家的相互聯結,推廣華人藝術教育理念與實踐,並促進其理念在國際間的交流。
